Open Doors holds annual memorial service for those who have experienced homelessness

News release from The Hour:

Ahead of the longest night of the year, Open Doors hosted a Homeless Persons’ Memorial service to celebrate the lives of unhoused people who have been lost in the past year.

The service was held outdoors Friday afternoon on the back lawn of the Norwalk nonprofit’s emergency shelter.  Community members, local leaders, staff and clients of Open Doors took part.

Saturday marked the winter solstice, which is the first day of winter and the longest night of the year. Dec. 21 has been declared National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day.  Open Doors joined with groups and advocates seeking to eradicate homelessness across the United States in remembering those people who have died while homeless.
