Norwalk’s Open Doors gives families in need food and the fixings for Christmas dinners

News release from The Hour:

Volunteers from the First Congregational Church of Darien helped other residents in need by distributing bags of food filled with all the fixings needed to enjoy a holiday dinner at home.

The food distribution was held Thursday morning by Open Doors, a Norwalk-based nonprofit, at its Smilow Life Center on Chestnut Street. Clients who signed up in advance received the bags of food for dinners for Christmas or other holidays. Open Doors also handed out food baskets earlier this year for Thanksgiving meals.

Open Doors provides supportive services that bridge the gap between homelessness and housing. Its services include offering hot meals, emergency shelter, free clothing, case management and more in Norwalk and beyond. Open Doors marked its 40th anniversary of opening Norwalk’s emergency shelter earlier this year.
